Hokkaido Jingu is one of the biggest and strongest power spots in Japan.
It plays a big role in the history of Hokkaido being the first shrine build on the island by Japanese. After the feudal system got abolished in 1869 and Hokkaido officially became a part of prefectural Japan, Emperor Meiji chose 3 Gods to be enshrined here to protect and help the pioneers develop the land. Later on, to honor the great Emperor Meiji, his soul became the 4th God enshrined.
Hokkaido Jingu in located in the heart of a huge, peaceful and picturesque Maruyama park. In spring don’t miss a chance to enjoy 1400 cherry trees in simultaneous bloom, while in fall – the autumn foliage or the red leaves season steps in. The winter New Year’s traditional ritual Hatsumode is a must join. In summer Hokkaido Shrine will greet you with spectacular Sapporo festival which every year gathers thousands of viewers from all over the globe.

Praying etiquette:
Wash your hands and clean your mouth at hand-washing stone basin before entering the shrine
Advance before the enshrined gods, then put some money into the offertory box.
Slowly and politely bow two times
After that, slowly and loudly clap your hands twice
Pray, make a wish or skip this step
Bow deeply one more time.
