Did you know that Odori Park, one of the most popular landmarks in Sapporo, is actually a street! Moreover, not many people know that it has strategic meaning – it’s a firebreak meant to divide the city into Residential and Administrative areas. The street starts at Sapporo TV tower which offers spectacular view on Odori from 90m high observation deck and ends with a gorgeous former Sapporo Court of Appeal building.
Nowadays, Odori Street is a unique place where you can take rest and enjoy the nature right in the center of the biggest city in Hokkaido, Sapporo.
Protected from the winds by the tall buildings on both sides this 1,5km long quite street is divided in 12 blocks and each of them has its own charm.
Take a walk to breathe fresh air in the city center thanks to more than 4700 trees planted along Odori and to discover 92 species of plants and 30 kinds of roses in Sunk Garden. Sapporo Lilac festival in June is a must see!
But nature is not the only attraction here – several types of lit-up fountains and sculptures of modern art are waiting for you along Odori street too. Throughout the year visitors enjoy various events and festivals held here like Yosakoi Soran, Snow festival and many others.
