TRIP HOKKAIDO

TRIP HOKKAIDO:The “forest of money” in Hakodate!

rect

Welcome to one of the oldest and most picturesque places in Hakodate – its port.

Established in late 1850’s Hakodate port was among 3 first International trading ports in Japan and was the first gate to Hokkaido for the foreigners.

Kanemori (literally translated as “money forest”) Red Brick Warehouse is a complex of 7 large warehouses built in Hakodate Port in late 1800’s and rebuild in 1909.
Nowadays, these beautiful historical buildings remind us of the times when foreign businessmen/tradesmen from all around the world were coming to Japan for the first time bringing little pieces of their cultures, which is now reflected in the varied architecture of historical Hakodate.
These days Kanemori Soko is the best place to go shopping and dining in the evening to enjoy romantic sunset in the harbor beside a wedding chapel.
There is a number of souvenir & crafts shops, fashion boutiques, bars, and restaurants with unique atmosphere in Kanemori. And you can make your experience there even more memorable by renting a Kimono! Wear traditional Japanese clothes and feel yourself a high-end Japanese from the early 20th century.
